Goldcoast Pro-Am and Amateur Couples Place Highly at Grand National Championships!

Goldcoast Ballroom was very well represented by our Pro-Am and Amateur couples who danced in the Grand National Dancesport Championships held in Key Biscayne, Florida on October 30 through November 2, 2013. Their results were impressive!! Here is a summary – in approximately the chronological order in which they danced in the competition:

Pro-Am Results – American Rhythm: Thursday Night, October 31

Wendy Anderson, dancing with her Rhythm instructor Michael Neil, WON FIRST PLACE in the Silver Closed American Rhythm Championship Final (which included Cha Cha, Rumba and Swing), and won the Mirror Ball Trophy!!

She also WON FIRST PLACE in the Bronze Closed American Rhythm Championships (Cha Cha and Rumba)!! AND, SHE WON FIRST PLACE in the Pre-Silver Cha Cha, Swing, Bolero and Mambo Single Dance Finals, AND FIRST PLACE in the Intermediate-Bronze and Full Bronze Single Dance Finals in Cha Cha, Rumba, Swing, Bolero, and Mambo!!!

Pro-Am Results – International Standard Ballroom: Friday, November 1

Linda Dicicco, dancing with her instructor Paolo Di Lorenzo, WON FIRST PLACE in the Bronze Closed International Standard Championship!!

Frances Yu, dancing with her instructor Paolo Di Lorenzo, WON FIRST PLACE in The Open International Standard Championship (all five dances – Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot and Quickstep)!!

Outstanding dancing, Frances, with extremely difficult routines in very competitive Heats!! Congratulations!!!

Mary Farrell, dancing with her instructor Paolo Di Lorenzo, WON FIRST PLACE in the Open International Standard Dancesport Series Championship (which included five dances – Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot and Quickstep)!!

Outstanding dancing, Mary, with extremely difficult routines in very competitive Heats!! Congratulations!!!

Giovanni Rannella, dancing with his instructor Olga Bogdanov, beautifully executing extraordinarily complicated routines WON FIRST PLACE IN ALL OF THE SINGLE DANCE FINALS they entered!! This included FIRST PLACE in Open Gold Advanced Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot and Quickstep!! In the Championships, with Giovanni being the only amateur gentleman dancing in very competitive large heats against all Pro male dancers, they placed highly in the Open International Standard Dancesport Series Championship (which included five dances – – Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot and Quickstep) and in the Open International Standard Championship (which included five dances – – Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot and Quickstep)!!

Bob Riebe, dancing with his instructor Olga Bogdanov, WON FIRST PLACE in the Open International Standard Dancesport Series Championship (which included five dances, Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot and Quickstep)!!!

They also WON FIRST PLACE in Open Silver Viennese Waltz, and with Bob being the only amateur gentleman dancing in very competitive large heats against all Pro male dancers, they placed SECOND in the Open International Standard Championship (which included five dances, Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot and Quickstep)!!

All-Amateur Results – International Standard Ballroom: Friday Night, November 1

Giovanni Rannella, dancing with Helena Zaludova, as an Amateur Couple, WON FIRST PLACE IN ALL THE EVENTS THEY ENTERED!!! This included FIRST PLACE in the Amateur Open International Standard Championship (which included FIRST PLACE in all five dances: Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot and Quickstep)!!! And, FIRST PLACE in the Adult Amateur Rising Star International Standard Challenge (which included FIRST PLACE in all three dances: Waltz, Tango and Foxtrot)!!

Bob Riebe, dancing with Maureen O’Flanagan, as an Amateur Couple, WON FIRST PLACE in Open Silver Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot and Quickstep; and PLACED SECOND in the Amateur Open International Standard Championship (which included five dances: Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot and Quickstep)!!! They PLACED THIRD in the Adult Amateur Rising Star International Standard Challenge (which included, Waltz, Tango and Foxtrot)!!

Pro-Am Results – International Latin: Saturday, November 2

Patti MacDonald, dancing with her instructor Brian Smith, WON FIRST PLACE in Open Pre-Silver Cha Cha and Open Bronze Cha Cha!! They won SECOND PLACE in Open Pre-Silver Samba and Rumba and Open Bronze Samba and Rumba!!

Pro-Am Results – American Smooth: Saturday, November 2

Terry Anderson, dancing with his instructor Olga Bogdanov, WON FIRST PLACE in Pre-Silver Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, and Viennese Waltz; FIRST PLACE in Intermediate-Silver Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, and Foxtrot; and FIRST PLACE in Full Silver Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot and Viennese Waltz!!! With Terry dancing as the only gentleman amateur dancer in very competitive large rounds against all Pro male dancers, they also placed highly in the Closed Silver American Ballroom Championship (Waltz, Tango and Foxtrot), and in the Closed American Ballroom Championship (Waltz, Tango and Foxtrot)!!

And, we are extremely proud of our World Class Pros, Paolo & Liene Di Lorenzo, who WON the FIRST PLACE Professional International Standard Champion and FIRST PLACE Professional International Show Dance Champion Titles at the event!!

Our Pro-Am, Amateur, and Professional competitors were strongly supported at the competition by a large contingent of loyal members of the “Goldcoast Family” who came to the Grand Nationals as spectators! They enthusiastically (and loudly) cheered on our competitors, and afterward graced the Ritz Carlton Lobby with impromptu Salsa dancing!! Thanks to all of you who came!! What fun we all had!!!
