Starting on November 14, Paolo and Liene Di Lorenzo — the reigning 2013 United States National Professional Classic Show Dance Champions and one of the Top Competitive Couples in the World(!) — will teach a one-hour class on preparing for dance competitions. The class is open to amateur couples or singles.
The class runs from 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM, and is preceded by a one-half hour Practice Session/ Warm-Up period. The Practice Session/ Warm-Up Period is open to students in the Competition Class (included in the $15.00 admission to the class), as well as to students who attend any of Paolo & Liene’s Thursday night classes.
In the Competition class, Liene and Paolo teach pointers on how to improve your dancing and how to compete — including pointers and strategy on how to enter and leave the dance floor, take proper bows, negotiate floorcraft, and behave during a dance competition.
Then they simulate a dance competition during the class. The student couples dance “semi-final” and “final” competition rounds in the International Standard dances, alternating with rounds in the International Latin dances during the class.
Students can choose to participate in only the International Standard rounds, only the Latin rounds, or both. Each International Standard round includes all five of the International Standard dances – Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot and Quickstep. The Latin Rounds include the five International Latin Dances – Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble, and Jive.
Each student couple (or single) dances their own choreography during the simulated competition rounds.
This simulation of a competition is great practice — especially if you are considering or planning to enter a dance competition!

Following this one-hour Competition class, the Goldcoast Formation Team, directed by Liene and Paolo Di Lorenzo, meets for one hour – from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM. Participation in the Formation Team is by invitation only. For more information see: Goldcoast Formation Team »
Following the Formation Team class, Paolo & Liene teach a one-our class from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on International Standard Waltz. Each month Paolo and Liene cover a different one of the five international standard dances — Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Slow Foxtrot, and Quickstep — during this class. For more information about this type of dancing, see the Goldcoast Ballroom Resources > Learn About Dance page.
At the end of the International Waltz class, Paolo & Liene hold a Structured Practice Session, from 9:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., which is open to students in the Waltz class, as well as students who attend any of Paolo & Liene’s classes that Thursday night.
During the Practice Session Paolo & Liene dance with the students, and the students dance with each other. When time permits, a “Five Dance” simulated International Standard competition round is also held during this Practice Session.
The cost of the International Waltz Class is $15.00 (which includes the Practice Session following the class, as well as the earlier practice session from 6:00 PM – 6:30 PM, if students wish).
