On Thursdays Evenings, Paolo and Liene Di Lorenzo — the 2013 United States National Professional Classic Show Dance Champions, World Professional Ballroom Showdance Championship Finalists, and one of the Top Competitive Couples in the World(!) — will teach a one-hour class on preparing for dance competitions, including both Ballroom and Latin Rounds. The class is open to amateur couples or singles.
The class runs from 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM. Participating couples may warm up on the floor before the class.
Take this class and be ready to compete in the Spectacular 13th Annual USA Dance Royal Palm DanceSport Competition which will be held on January 30, 2016 at Goldcoast Ballroom!! It is one of the most highly regarded all-amateur dancesport competitions in Florida and in the United States. Learn more, and Sign Up Now for the Competition. First 10 couples to register before December 1 get an Extra Discount off the already-discounted Competitor Fees!!
In the Competition class on Thursday Evenings, Liene and Paolo teach pointers on how to improve your dancing and how to compete — including pointers and strategy on how to enter and leave the dance floor, take proper bows, negotiate floorcraft, and behave during a dance competition.
The class includes a simulated dance competition – including both Ballroom and Latin rounds. There is no better way to learn the floorcraft needed to win in dance competitions! The student couples dance “semi-final” and “final” competition rounds in the International Standard dances, alternating with rounds in the International Latin dances during the class.
Each student couple (or single) dances their own choreography during the simulated competition rounds.
Students can choose to participate in only the International Standard rounds, only the Latin rounds, or both. Each International Standard round includes all five of the International Standard dances – Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot and Quickstep. The Latin Rounds include the five International Latin Dances – Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble, and Jive.
This simulation of a competition is great practice — especially if you are considering or planning to enter a dance competition!

Following this one-hour Competition class, the Goldcoast Formation Team, directed by Liene and Paolo Di Lorenzo, meets for one hour – from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM – every Thursday night. The Formation Team will perform at the Goldcoast Ballroom December Showcase. For more information, contact Liene & Paolo Di Lorenzo.
Following the Formation Team class, during October, Paolo & Liene will teach a one-our class from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on International Slow Foxtrot. Each month Paolo and Liene cover a different one of the five International Standard dances — Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Slow Foxtrot, and Quickstep — during this International Standard class. For more information about this type of dancing, see the Goldcoast Ballroom Resources > Learn About Dance page.
At the end of the International Foxtrot class, Paolo & Liene hold a Structured Practice Session, from 9:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., which is open to students in the International Foxtrot class, as well as students who attend any of Paolo & Liene’s classes that Thursday night.
During the Practice Session Paolo & Liene dance with the students, and the students dance with each other. When time permits, a “Five Dance” simulated International Standard competition round, and time-permitting also a Latin round, is held during this Practice Session.
The cost of the International Slow Foxtrot Class is $15.00 (which includes the Practice Session following the class).
